t h e m a y f i l e s is foremost a family blog, chronicling everyday life. Life including natural, healthy eating (with recipes thrown in at random), home educating (with ideas popping up sporadically), an attempt to homestead on .2 acres (with very meager yields), raising 3 of 4 children with a rare genetic disorder, and lots of highly personal family triumphs and failures. You may also find an eclectic array of musings on politics, exercise, sewing, emergency preparedness, backyard chickens, and religion. This blog isn't a campaign to glorify anyone or anything. Just simply a record.

Halloween Candy Craft

My girls just couldn't wait to make the turkeys. So this morning before church we hauled out all the halloween candy, picked out some apples from the garage, and went crazy decorating.
This has easily become a tradition in our house. We are only in the second year but I don't see it stopping soon. All the candy works great except for maybe the m&m's.
This year however we are protecting our little turkeys from the infamous fruit flies. They are now locked away in the glass cabinet sweetly smiling out at us, and tempting those tiny little terrors.

So your kids don't actually eat any of their halloween candy? I wish. I don't want to be a mean mom, but the candy drives me nuts. And it's coming from all directions (especially grandpa).

They use it to "decorate." It worked even better the second year, because they were so excited to use their candy for this reason. They never even expected to be able to eat more that a piece or two. It works great when they are little like my kids and love crafts.

Very cute idea Becca...I am already ready to throw the rest of the Halloween candy away but maybe I will try this approach instead!
Thanks for the great idea.
